Als der Nike Air Max2 Light im Jahre 1994 erschien, hatte sich die Air Technologie schon lange durchgesetzt. Man befand sich nicht mehr im Stadium der Erprobung einer neuen Technologie, sondern man war sich bei Nike über die Vorteile eines Luftpolsters in der Sohle bewusst. Auch die Athleten hatten die Air-Technologie angenommen. Das sichtbare Air Pad der Air Max Schuhe hatte sich durchgesetzt und Nike verbaute es zur Dämpfung in etlichen Modellen diverser Sportarten. Dabei verbaute Nike beim Air Max2 Light erstmalig mehrere Druckkammern in der Sohle, die dem Sportler eine noch bessere Dämpfung bieten sollten, indem die äußeren Kammern mit einen Druck von 25psi und die inneren Kammern mit 5psi befüllt wurden. Bei gut erhaltenen OGs ist auf den sichtbaren Air Pads sogar noch die Angabe “25psi” zu lesen. Mit der sogenannten “Tensile Air” im Vorderfußbereich hatte Nike eine weitere wegweisende Technologie am Start, die heutzutage der Air Zoom Technologie entspricht. Das namensgebende Merkmal des Light Serie, die mit dem Air Max Light im Jahre 1989 begann, war die Sohle aus Phylon. Durch einen besonderen Herstellungsprozess, bei dem ein EVA Granulat komprimiert und anschließend unter Hitzezufuhr gedehnt wurde um das Ergebnis anschließend in die Midsole zu pressen, entstand eine völlig neue Art der Mittelsohle, die extrem leicht war und speziell Running-Bereich Vorteile bringen sollte. Alles in allem war der Schuh eine technische Wunderwaffe, der auch noch extrem geil aussah und für den dadurch der Sprung vom reinen Performance Modell hin zum Lifestyle Schuh ein Leichtes war.

When the Nike Air Max2 Light appeared in 1994, Air technology had been established for long. All in all, the shoe was a technical wonder weapon, which also looked extremely cool and easily managed to switch from a performance shoe to a lifestyle silhouette.
