The swordsmith Sadanobu Gassan was the inspiration for the production and design of the new MRG-G2000GA. He is the legacy of this centuries-old, fascinating tradition, which defines the exact handling of the metal as well as characteristic design features and which only authorized blacksmiths are allowed to use in Japan. Inspired by him, the new watch combines Japanese craftsmanship with the modern technologies and expertise of G-SHOCK. The case of the MRG-G2000GA is made of recrystallized titanium with a shimmer reminiscent of the blade of Japanese swords. Parts of the case are colour-coated with AIP (Arc Ion Plating): this dark violet is associated with the nobility in Japan. The surface of the middle part of the case is adorned with the filed pattern of the Gassan sword forging tradition. The bevel of the COBARION® alloy bezel is also reminiscent of the blade

of a sword. The bracelet of the watch is inspired by the tang of a sword in the handle. In Japanese swords, file lines are applied to the alder to prevent it from slipping out of its grip. These strokes vary in pattern depending on the school of swordsmithing or the swordsmith who makes them. The MRG-G2000GA’s middle band finish is also based on the Gassan swordsmith tradition. On the bracelet there is a Japanese character: “Kanji” stands for devotion to the forging trade in the 1st Gassan tradition. Because only this handwork makes the perfect finish of the watch possible. Functionally, the new G-SHOCK stands for CASIO’s high-end technologies: The extremely robust and water-resistant up to 20 bar innovation is equipped with the Connected Engine 3-way module, which receives both radio and GPS satellite signals for time calibration. When connected via Bluetooth® to a smartphone, it can also connect to time servers on the Internet and update summer time and time zones. The fully automated clock displays the exact time anywhere in the world and is therefore absolutely reliable – even thanks to the self-charging Tough Solar System, in which even the weakest light sources are sufficient to operate the clock.
