No way.

It’s a local thing.

The adidas A-ZX series goes into the next round with the letter “O”, which stands for – you guessed it – OVERKILL. This name is not only the inspiration for this project, but also serves as the theme for our ZX8500. It is a veritable overkill of ideas, facets and approaches that reflect the design of this hybrid silhouette. Of particular interest here is the realisation of a crazy idea – namely the successful experiment of fusing the iconic ZX8000 and ZX9000 silhouettes together to create a new model and  refine it with further details of models of the iconic four-digit ZX series.

adidas ZX 8500 “Overkill” – the name says it all.

The name “Overkill” is representative of the variety of colours and materials as well as the numerous details that this shoe delivers. From the bright upper materials in neon yellow, pink, purple & red, which are inspired by the colour palette of Montana Gold graffiti cans and refer to our formative childhood days in the 1990s, to the mudguard in concrete look, which pays tribute to the slab construction tristesse of our hometown Berlin, the graffiti reference runs like a green thread through the overall work of art. But that’s not all: embedded in a material mix of pinstripe mesh & suede are numerous other details such as a hybrid logo of Overkill Quote and “Flammable” warning on the heel and lacetags, a stitched “Overkill” on the toe box, an “OK” tag on the heel cage as well as an adidas logo crossed by the Overkill Quote (and vice versa) on the respective tongues. The structure of the green panel on the inside is reminiscent of a wire mesh fence that has to be overcome in order to pursue one’s graffiti passion in the yard. Smaller 3M elements scattered across the shoe reflect Berlin’s Chrome Bomber history, which still has a very big influence in the local graffiti scene to this day. The “Overkill” details are rounded off by the legendary neon green Torsion bone, which includes not only the adidas Trefoil but also the Overkill logo.

What bothers graffiti sprayers more than passing police? Paint stains on their favourite sneaker. To counteract this, we have come up with something very special and pack each adidas ZX 8500 “Overkill” with a black overshoe branded with an “OK” tag, which protects against minor paint and liquid splashes. So nothing stands in the way of spraying around the yard.

The adidas ZX 8500 “Overkill” comes with extra laces as well as various lacetags and will be available at www.overkillshop.com from 09.04.2021 at 12am.

The extra mile aka an “Overkill” of merchandise

A shoe dedicated to the graffiti theme without real sprayers? No way. So without further ado, we got Berlin’s probably best-known graffiti crew – 1UP – on board and designed a T-shirt together, which will be available in both black and white – adorned with bright colours.

Think big.

True to the motto “Packaging is everything”, we have stacked up a part of the white ZX 8500 “Overkill” shoeboxes in the form of a wall and had them artistically refined by 1UP. Ergo, there is a series of unique and exclusive shoeboxes that are a work of art in themselves. A must for every collector.

Since we all know that the best comes at the end, please fasten your seatbelts: based on an artwork by 1UP, we are launching an individual “paint by numbers” together with Ravensburger, true to the motto #stayhome, which we are including free of charge for the first 1500 buyers. You heard right, breathtaking and limited art for free, as this masterpiece is not available for purchase.

Overkill, Overkill, Overkill.

Our Berlin homies from 1UP also embellished the special seeding cases and the unique Overkill x Betonat concrete graffiti cans to round off the whole project. It’s a local thing.

But since there are also true ZX-lovers outside of our latitudes, we are refreshing our longstanding friendship with atmos and are releasing a collabo t-shirt in two colours for this special release, which will only be available at atmos and us.

As you can see, we don’t let ourselves down and deliver a colourful potpourri of gimmicks for our ZX 8500 “Overkill” and live up to the name of the shoe.

Mark 09.04.2021 in your calendar and be there when Overkill delivers once again.
